Over one thousand years ago, the Order of Saint John of the Hospital of Jerusalem was founded to provide basic care and treatment for Christian Pilgrims making their way to the holy city. The Order, originally founded by the Blessed Father Gerard, was originally a service order. However, early in the 12th century, a military wing of the order was founded to protect the hospital and pilgrims in the Holy Land. The Hospitaller Knights won great renown and remained a force for Christendom for hundreds of years. It is the only Crusader Order still in existence today. The Hospitallers of St. John of Caid seeks to recreate the original Order of Saint John within the Society for Creative Anachronism in as rich and authentic detail as is possible in our modern age. |
